Hi friends and strangers! I just re-learned how to log in and post a blog. Too bad for you!

In a few hours I will be broadcasting live over the airwaves with my good friend Jesse. We are doing a Tuesday morning show from 6-8am pacific on 88.9FM KUCI (if you are not in Orange County, CA you can click “listen now” in the top right hand corner). If you would like to hear what a trainwreck sounds like, feel free to listen to our first show tomorrow morning. If not, just tune in some other week for a (hopefully)lesser disaster.

We will be playing mostly unsigned bands, bands on independent labels as well as friends of ours. If you are a friend, remind me to play your music so we can promote it. If you are an enemy(Chris Cox???), remind me to play your music so we can trash talk it. If you are not sure what role you play in my life, just send me your music and you will quickly figure it out.

I don’t know if we have an email account or twitter set up yet…but if/when we do, I’ll post it here and you can contact us there to request songs (as long as it is not on mainstream radio/top 200 billboard charting).

Thanks for reading/listening!

Here is a video that Whitney, a talented friend of mine made for a class project. Check it out!

I Dream of Tiki from Whitney Mullon on Vimeo.

I didn’t go to bed last night for two reasons. One – I am a night owl. No matter how hard I’ve tried, I have not been able to change that. Two – I had to take a friend to the airport at 5 am and I did not want to risk sleeping through my alarm.

After dropping my friend and his wife off at the airport I went back to their house to pick up my car and drove home down PCH.

FactPCH is (one of) the coolest, most awesome road(s) you can drive on. I decided to stop at the beach in Newport to enjoy the sun rise. After a few moments, the sun comes out and the surfers and bodyboarders hop in the water.

While watching the people play in the water, (Marine Conservationist NERD ALERT) I spotted a small pod of about 6-8 Coastal Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins playing and jumping out of the water, not too far behind the bodyboarders. It was an awesome. This type of dolphin are generally not too acrobatic compared to other species, so this was a real treat. I took a few pictures with my camera phone, but you can barely see the specks that were dolphin. It was much easier to see in person. Anyway, here is a picture, just because the ocean is awesome. (The dolphin were at the 11 o’clock position behind the body boarders.)

I watched the dolphin for about half an hour then decided I should head home to bed. On my way home, I was once again driving down PCH and noticed that the angle of the sun and the direction I was driving made a strange shadow out of my car. I thought it looked like Shrek.

I searched the interweb for a picture of Shrek’s shadow from one of the films to compare, and didn’t come up with anything. I did however find this picture of Gwen Stefani being compared to Shrek.

I never did make it home to bed until 2 pm…but that’s ok. I was able to enjoy a gourmet breakfast of crepes, omelettes and sweet potatoe fries with some great friends, prepared by a great friend.

Enough rambling. I hope you can take away three things from reading this blog:

1. The beach (especially at sunrise or sunset)beats anywhere else in the world.

2. My vision (while wearing contact lenses) beats my cell phone camera.

3. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

9-30

Tempe

It’s hot here. Like a desert. Played at a place called The Clubhouse. One of the sweatiest shows I’ve been to. My good friend Tara came out to visit and brought her daughter, Shea. I got a slurpee. After the show I bought some Ben N Jerry’s Americone Dream, which I am enjoying right now.

10-1

San Diego

Nothing too interesting happened today, except for me eating some awesome pizza. I can’t wait to have a day off at home tomorrow!

10-2

HOME (day off)

We got to our hotel around 3:30 am…and were told we couldnt check in yet. I decided just to sleep in my bunk until we could. I got woken up at 5 am to go into the room. I woke up at 2 and had a friend come pick up me and Yuri. We grabbed my bikes and went on a little ride, ending up at In N Out burger. It’s always great…but it’s the best when you haven’t had it for over a month! We then rode to the grocery store to pick up supplies for the BBQ. A few hours later the rest of the guys came over.

James grilled “green meat” which is an old family pork recipe. It was awesome. A few of my wonderful friends came over as well. We BBQ’ed, sat around the fire pit and watched zoolander on the wall with a projector. Now I’m sitting here, ready to sleep in my own bed!

10-3

Anaheim

Fun show at the HOB. A few good friends where able to come hang out and see what I do on a day to day basis. There was also a marriage proposal in the middle of the set. I drank alot of coffee today.

Ok….so these are boring. I’m boring myself here. Sorry. I am only doing it because I promised myself I would write at least a little something each day, mainly so I could remember a little better what I did these last couple months.

10-4

Petaluma

Sad day. Had to say goodbye to all of my friends in Lagwagon, Tat, and Only Crime. Lagwagon dedicated their song “To All My Friends”  to me and then a frisbee game broke out between them, myself, my friend Robin and a few people in the crowd. They eventually took back the song dedication because I am a terrible frisbee thrower. I have most of it on video and will eventually put it up here…or just come over to see it. That might be a little easier.  Tonights show was filmed for a DVD release. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

10-5

Los Angeles

Back in LA again. I was here only a couple days ago. This time we are playing with Rancid.

Earlier today I was walking down the street to get a burrito at “Dos Burritos” and a man well over six foot steps out of a corner store right in my way. I look up and realize that it’s John Krasinski . I say hi and keep walking to get my burrito. On my way back from Dos Burritos he steps out in front of me again. He says “sorry” and I say, “Don’t worry about it. Nice to meet you.” He sticks out his hand, asks me my name and tells me it was nice to meet me. He said he was filming a commercial for Coca Cola, and thats why he keeps going in and out of the store. I invited him to the show tonight and he thanked me, but said that he said he will be busy filming.

I just at a Sonic the Hedhog Icecream bar from the ice cream man. You know, the kind with the gumball eyes. I dont think anyone ever actually eats the eyes. I always spit them out. If you are a maker of Sonic the Hog (or Ninja Turtles or Pink Panther) icecream, please try putting some form of gummi bear in there instead. Not necessarily a bear shape, but a gummi eye would be awesome. Now my whole mouth is blue, but it is worth it!

Ok, time to go get my things ready for the show….and get packed to go home!

I am home sick with the bird flu…so I figured I should use the time to cut and paste all of these things I forgot to post earlier.

9-27

Las Vegas

(I forgot to write today.)

9-28

Los Angeles

I forgot to write yesterday…but that’s ok, I’ll do it right now.

Here’s my good man Jered and I not being tourists in Las Vegas.

I also won 5 times the amount of money I gambled, by playing craps.

Ok. Back to Los Angeles /Hollywood. I’ve gotta say, I’m not a fan of this city. The show was fun today, although I did not like the promoter. He would not stop looking at his PDA/phone/iphone/whatever it was the whole 2 minutes he needed to talk to me. Because of this, I now know that he has tons of friends and is an incredibly important person. How dare I bother him and demand his undivided attention for 2 minutes.

Red Bull put on a fun little afterparty. Me and Yuri ended up driving a friend home and then made the nice walk back to the bus around 4 am. We had some great conversation and I just enjoyed an otter pop. Well, not a real one. It was one of those generic brands. “Blue” flavor. Goodnight.

9-29

Tucson

We had another day off. We spent it at our tour manager Tommy Rat’s home. We went to dinner at his pizza place, Rockin Pizza. I got the meatball parmesan sandwich and a bunch of pizza. It’s one of my favorite pizza places in the world. After that, I went to an amazing tiki bar called Kon Tiki. I got a zombie or two. Man, a few of those and you will be out cold.

I’ve been sitting in this massage chair called king kong for a long time. We are watching some dorky sci fi movie and I am bored and going to bed.

Bigfoot/Nessie ‘08

p.s. I already purchased the shirt and donated $50 to the campaign.

9-23

Sauget, IL/St. Louis (same thing, I hear)

We have a show at a cool venue. Too bad the only other places nearby are stip clubs. I asked a few different workers at the venue where I should go to pick up some food. They all told me the same thing, “The strip clubs have GREAT food!”

Looks like I’m eating bus food…again.

9-24

Kansas

I have no idea what city we were in earlier today, but we went to the Smoky Hill Bison Co.

Our bus driver is obsessed with bison, and actually owns three, which live at this ranch…so he brought us here for a tour. We woke up early (noon) to go out and see the bison.  A sweet lady named Lynda was our host.

One of the bison got pushed through the electric fence by another bison, so here you see Lynda trying to get him back to where he should be.

9-25

Denver

GREAT DAY! I found a copy of Dennis Wilson’s Pacific Ocean Blue. I have been waiting for this for a LONG time.

I think I am pretty good about not namedropping, but this time I have to.

I met one of my musical heroes today. Bill Stevenson. He thought he already knew me. Weird. Maybe he saw my myspace or something since we have a few common friends. We are all lurkers(except for me), we just don’t admit it. Who knows.  He has played drums and written songs in many of my favorite bands. He is one of the main reasons I am a drummer. I was totally nerdy and starstruck(very rare for me) when I met him. We geeked out for a while about drums/recording and chatted about the day to day. It was awesome.

I also got to see my aunt Roxann and uncle Ken tonight and grab a bite to eat with them. It is always the best to see family when on tour, or anytime, really.

9-26

SLC

Ate street tacos, trimmed my fingernails, worked and then went to California Pizza kitchen with Jered and Kristi B!

I think I have it. Actually, I know I have it. I was researching it (wikipedia, yay!) this morning and found this little excerpt.

Yeah, I don’t do anything on that list.
