I didn’t go to bed last night for two reasons. One – I am a night owl. No matter how hard I’ve tried, I have not been able to change that. Two – I had to take a friend to the airport at 5 am and I did not want to risk sleeping through my alarm.

After dropping my friend and his wife off at the airport I went back to their house to pick up my car and drove home down PCH.

FactPCH is (one of) the coolest, most awesome road(s) you can drive on. I decided to stop at the beach in Newport to enjoy the sun rise. After a few moments, the sun comes out and the surfers and bodyboarders hop in the water.

While watching the people play in the water, (Marine Conservationist NERD ALERT) I spotted a small pod of about 6-8 Coastal Pacific Bottlenose Dolphins playing and jumping out of the water, not too far behind the bodyboarders. It was an awesome. This type of dolphin are generally not too acrobatic compared to other species, so this was a real treat. I took a few pictures with my camera phone, but you can barely see the specks that were dolphin. It was much easier to see in person. Anyway, here is a picture, just because the ocean is awesome. (The dolphin were at the 11 o’clock position behind the body boarders.)

I watched the dolphin for about half an hour then decided I should head home to bed. On my way home, I was once again driving down PCH and noticed that the angle of the sun and the direction I was driving made a strange shadow out of my car. I thought it looked like Shrek.

I searched the interweb for a picture of Shrek’s shadow from one of the films to compare, and didn’t come up with anything. I did however find this picture of Gwen Stefani being compared to Shrek.

I never did make it home to bed until 2 pm…but that’s ok. I was able to enjoy a gourmet breakfast of crepes, omelettes and sweet potatoe fries with some great friends, prepared by a great friend.

Enough rambling. I hope you can take away three things from reading this blog:

1. The beach (especially at sunrise or sunset)beats anywhere else in the world.

2. My vision (while wearing contact lenses) beats my cell phone camera.

3. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
